TBH, I already lost interest when he changed the love interest's power. In the original book, she set things on fire and was one of the main monster-killers. In the movie, she has air powers that she can't actually control, so the MC pulls her around on a rope like she's a goddamn balloon. That really sums up what Hollywood does to love interest characters, doesn't it?

Yeah I wasn't sure why they took away an awesome power and gave her another of the character's interesting but less awesome (and less helpful for monster fighting) power.

She also raised a fricking ship with those air powers.
