I was going to try and watch it at one point, but I think the animation held me back. Are the stories worth it?

(Anonymous) 2016-10-06 12:12 am (UTC)(link)
No. Well one story is, but the rest of the scripts are rejects from season three of the live action show. You know, the stuff worse than Spock's Brain.

ayrt

LOL. I actually kind of liked Spock's Brain though I could totally see why most people would hate it. But I do remember there being some other doozies. Guess I'm not missing anything then.

The only decent one is the one where Spock time travels and accidentally erases himself from existence so time travels some more to bring himself back into existence. The rest are silly. And yeah, that is the benchmark for least silly.

I liked Spock's Brain because we got to see McCoy do some doctoring.

The writing is quite sciency for an animated show. I love it.

(Anonymous) 2016-10-06 01:30 am (UTC)(link)
Not really. I mean one episode has an alien who splits himself into pieces, not as a gestalt entity but as basically Scrub's "Floating Head Doctor" only an alien, and those pieces float around creating trouble. That is not sciencey at all.

Oh my gosh, I remember that one! It scared me when I was a kid!

I love TAS. There's something about it that makes it really endearing. Probably the voice acting for some odd reason?

I love that Leonard Nimoy and a few others refused to participate in the TAS project unless there was a guarantee that Nichelle Nichols and George Takei were included. Certain people at the network wanted to either use other actors for their voices, or write Uhura/Sulu out and create some new crew members.

The voice acting in TAS is very interesting to me, because I always try to spot who's doubling as voices in the supporting cast. Like, they could afford to have guest stars for the main guest role, but the minor characters... not so much. James Doohan and Majel Barrett do the most, but almost everybody chips in.

I love TAS. it's cracky! But then I also love Captain Proton.

Captain Proton was the best!

(Anonymous) 2016-10-06 07:17 am (UTC)(link)
It has the best aliens!

I really appreciated how they took advantage of the medium to have a lot of weird aliens - including among the Enterprise crew - that they could never do with actors in makeup.

It's no Rick and Morty but it has its moments.
