Right now? My empty inbox and the fact that of the 31 story submissions I have out, only ten of them are in the black on the Submission Grinder. Meaning that 21 of them are either past the average response time, or are past the response time the publication says they strive for. So frustrating. Just reject them already, you know you're going to.

Shit. I think I'd be happy I had completed 31 stories to submit somewhere. I have such focus/finishing problems.

To be fair, I have an embarrassment of riches; some of these are stories I wrote six or more years ago that I'm hunting reprint markets for.

And, also to be fair, I would be equally as annoyed by my "normal" rejection-a-day pace. I have a squirrel brain, I swear. There's no happy medium there.

Haha, aw. Yeah I think I'd prefer the rejections, I hate the anxiety of waiting. :/

It's one thing if I go into a sub knowing, okay, this will take awhile. Tor.com was notoriously slow before they closed completely to unsolicited short fiction, and when I slid one in right before they shut the portal for good, I knew I was in for a wait. 299 days, and counting, so far. From the looks of things, I'm in for two more weeks (give or take) of waiting before they send me a polite rejection. But it was my last shot at them, and it's one of my very favorite stories, so I couldn't not send it.

But when a market usually takes two or three weeks, and my story has been sitting there for nearly four months with no word? I get really itchy about that. And I hate querying.

This business, man.
