Unfortunately, people still have stereotypes associated with Top/bottom. This means if I prefer a certain characterization during sex, or a certain slight dom/sub subtext, Top/bottom is the way to go.

This is usually in smut/pwp heavy fics. Otherwise, the stereotypes are played down (unless it's dom/sub. I always prefer the person who seems more put together/restrained to be the sub and people always tend to headcanon them as the dom) in the multi-chapter, plot-y fics.

People tag to get views. Porn people also tag bc some people care about who is getting cock to get off.

tldr: stfu. People tag

You are reading some poorly written smut then. It's quite possible to have dynamics *without* even having any penetration. Gosh. Imagine that.

Same; my fandom somehow sees character in VERY different lights based on who tops and bottoms. Given that what I see as the proper characterization almost INVARIABLY is found in A/B fics, those are what I read. I'll give B/A fics a try (because I see the characters as switching), but 999 times out of 1000, the characterization is just terribad, mostly because people don't seem to understand how Character A acts in bed when they pair him on bottom with Character B.

It is admittedly funny, though, to see routine writers of B/A try their hand at A/B. It rarely ends well.

DA

My fandom is this way as well. It's really kind of amazing how glaring and consistent it is too. If Character A tops, the dynamic is very "Loyal, Bumbling Sidekick Gets Expertly Taken By Brilliant and Commanding Partner." If Character A Bottoms, the dynamic is very "Strong and Loyal Lifemate Fucks Brilliant Yet Deceptively Vulnerable Partner's Brains Out." (I fail at being ambiguous about which fandom this is, and also at not telegraphing my bias, but whatever.)

Truthfully, in my fandom's case, I don't think either dynamic is particularly more "in character" than the other. But that doesn't stop me from having a strong preference.
