Longest illness?

What is the longest time you've been sick for at one time?

Went to the allergist today. It seems I'm not allergic to ragweed after all. The doctor's best guess is that I've had a sinus infection for three months. Don't think I've ever had one illness for that long before.

I had a migraine for two weeks. Went to the doctors three times before they finally gave me some shots to help. It hurt so bad during that time that sometimes I couldn't walk because the pressure on my feet was excruciating.

Oh god, that's awful. I had a week long one that was bad enough. Two weeks, though? That sounds horrifying. I'm glad it eventually went away.

If you're thinking staying at home, I think like two weeks with the mumps.

If you're talking feeling ill - I'd say depression, but if you're talking physical, I had a walking pneumonia and my lungs didn't quite feel good for maybe 3-4 months.

Probably a cold that lasted a week. Or maybe strep for a week. I'm usually not a sickly person.

32 years, so far.

Oh, ick, I'm sorry. I've been fairly lucky in not having any long-term things outside of asthma and some mental illness.

Hah, I thought I was hard done by at 23 years.

I was sick as a kid for a month. (Or more? I just know I was a month out of school.) They never figured out what it was, despite taking tons of blood. (They at least used to turn the cotton balls and bandaids into bunnies on my arm after I gave blood? I was 6, and this was a highlight of a time that didn't have many.)

As an adult, that would be kidney stones. Also for about a month. Although only two weeks of that was constant excruciating pain that got me hospitalized. The other 2-3 weeks was after the surgeries, so it was bad with really painful moments, but not as bad as the previous weeks. I would not wish kidney stones on my worst enemy.

Not counting mental illness or injuries... I had some sort of hellish throat infection for about two months and lost my voice entirely for about five or six weeks?

Oh lord. Like 5 months.

Or! Or! 10+ years? Is that cheating?

I had kidney stones that didn't pass and I wasn't able to get them surgically removed for 2 months.

A week and a half, I think. I was really young and all I remember is having a really high fever and feeling restless.

I had some lung bullshit kick my ass about 12 years ago that put me in bed for a month. I was coughing for another 4-5 months. Awful goddamn thing. I rarely get sick, but when I do I might as well be dead.

Probably the time a surgical wound was not healing because fluid build-up kept breaking it, so it got infected and I went back to hospital to get the infection under control. I was in hospital for a week the first time, after the surgery, out for maybe three, possibly four days, then went back in and stayed for another week, got out again with a very expensive medical vacuum to help hold the wound together and drain it while it healed for... I don't recall, but probably four or so weeks. It was a while longer after I returned the vac before the wound was fully healed though, but at least I didn't have the stress of nursing the vac - it was worth $25,000, and I hadn't got insurance cover for it.

I had symptoms caused by an undiagnosed brain tumour for about 4 months. I don't feel like it counts, though. It felt less like an illness than a thing that appeared in my body and then was removed and had nothing to do with me.

When I had chicken pox as a kid. It was about a week; don't think I've ever topped that.

I don't remember how long I was sick when I had scarlet fever (also as a kid, but a few years after chicken pox) but I was sick enough that I went to the doctor before too long, and since that's bacterial I was able to get a prescription that took care of the symptoms within a day.

My sister and I were both sick for about 3 or 4 months when I was in junior high and she was in elementary school. Aches, pains, fatigue, very non-specific symptoms. The doctor first suspected Mono at first but we were negative, and never did actually figure it out. We'd stay home from school for a few days and then one or the other of us would feel a little better and be sent to school, then come home. We eventually both got better, but it was the year after than that my sister was diagnosed with diabetes. The timing is suspicious, and makes me think that it was something autoimmune and that, for whatever reason, she had long-term damage and I didn't.

When I was maybe 14 or 15 I had this nasty chest cold that wouldn't go away, and when it finally cleared up it left me with this sharp pain whenever I inhaled too deeply and I was coughing up solid chunks of a mysterious, horribly gross tasting light green substance. This state of affairs persisted for over a week until it slowly ebbed away. Now I think it was probably bronchitis but at the time I just thought it was an especially bad cold. Never had anything like it before or since.

A few years back, I started working with elementary school children for the first time, and I got sick all the goddamn time. I'd get better, and then 2-3 days later, I'd get sick again -- I kept count, and the first year I was sick on 14 separate occasions, the longest of which was a 6-week long throat infection of undetermined origin.

Outside of that time period, the longest serious illness I had was severe food poisoning as a child that took two weeks before I could keep any food down and 2-3 weeks after that before my digestive system functioned normally.

I was once sick for about two, two and a half months. Initially it was a cold, but because my immune system was weak as fuck (my vitamin D level were in the toilet) it turned into bronchitis. Only when I was completely non-functional did I bite the bullet and go to the doctor. A few weeks of antibiotics later, I was right as rain!
Still crazy, of course, but not coughing anymore!

2.5 months, it was brutal. I still don't know what the fuck was going on with me, it was like... the most extreme cold I've ever seen.

Well I had what I thought was a really wet cough for about 3 months, turns out it was a lung infection. Had my first ever antibiotics!

Runners up are 2 months is glandular fever. It was horrible, I was incoherent for 2 months basically. I think it hit me hard cause i was grown.

Have a wet cough right now, too. For a few months. i really should get it looked at

I had a non cancerous tumor on my ovary for a year because it kept getting misdiagnosed. Ironic given that I was really obsessive about House at the time.
