28 Days Later is fantastic.
Pontypool is a great unusual zombie movie.
All time favorite is The Thing.
Most recent horror movie I watched that scared me was The Conjuring.

Alien, hands down. Aliens is a good runner-up.

Also quite enjoy Jacob's Ladder, Session 9, It Follows, Night of the Living Dead.

The Ju-On series. (Mostly the original continuity and 10th anniversary pair, but the reboot continuity isn't bad.)
Sinister.

Aliens is my favorite movie, full stop.

But it's not pure horror, it's action horror. Alien, on the other hand, is good suspense horror.

For straight up, heart-pounding, watch-between-my-fingers, horror, it's Halloween (1978)
An American Werewolf in London is an awesome horror comedy.
Jaws - good at jump scares, amazing score (by turns menacing, majestic, suspenseful, and playful), well-done tension building.
Poltergeist (1982) - some of the creepiest things ever (the television, the bathroom mirror, that freaking clown doll, that tree, the pool).
Nightmare on Elm Street (1984) - man, just the concept is horrifying, but damn do some of the images stick with you (and make it very difficult to fall asleep).

I also quite like Monster Squad, Fright Night (1985), Tremors, Silver Bullet, Gremlins, Scream, and Zombieland. I do honestly like some of the sequels, but beyond Aliens, I usually consider the original the best.

Does Ginger Snaps count?

I hate horror movies lol I haven't seen one that is actually scary, they are just really gross with lots of tits. Total waste of time.
