whereas Glee acts like leaving Lima is the best thing ever

I think Ohioans in general act like leaving Ohio is the best thing ever. I grew up there and it kind of sucks

AYRT - Can I ask how so? Just curious.

nayrt - I grew up in Ohio and still live there. It's fine. Not the most exciting or interesting place on earth, but my family's here and I like the relatively low cost of living, the cities that are just big enough to have stuff that I want/need, and the nice parks and quiet rural areas.

I sympathize a little with people who say Ohio sucks, but I suspect that the reason for why it sucks has more to do with their individual situations than the state of Ohio.

AYRT - Ah, okay. Yeah, I'd never heard of anyone having a strong dislike towards Ohio before.

Oh, I have. And I understand that there are many, many places in the world that look like better places to live to a lot of people. But I think that it is what you make of it, if that makes any sense. The issues Ohio has are not rare, nor are they specific to Ohio only. But the grass will always look greener, etc. etc.

I've never liked living here pretty much since I was a teenager. My distaste for this state (hey that rhymed) mostly stems from how podunk it is, also I detest the weather in SW Ohio. It's always 10-20 degrees warmer than I'd like, and we don't have autumn or spring.

Ohio's a little podunk, yeah. Though since you live near/in Cincinnati, it's not THAT podunk. As for the weather, it could be nicer but I don't really get the whole no autumn or spring complaint. I love both those seasons even if they're sometimes too short.

It's definitely podunk enough for my tastes. I want out of here, I feel like I have no future, but I can't afford to move away.

Also I'm not sure where you live, but most years it feels like summer is taking over. Sometimes it's like winter doesn't even happen, it's just a brief dull period where it's NOT summer but can't be fairly described as a traditional autumn, winter or spring.

I often say Cincinnati is a southern town and I stand by that -- and the weather has a lot to do with it.

I'm sorry, that sucks. :(

I lived in Dayton for many years, so not that far from you both distance and climate-wise. But yeah, in recent years we've had mild winters and weird summers. This summer and last summer were the rainiest summers in my recent memory and the humidity was intense. That said, I'm in SE Ohio now and today was one of those perfect (IMO) days with sunny, crisp weather. It feels like autumn even though the trees are only just beginning to turn.

I'm pretty content in Ohio, but I hope you can get out and find some place you like better.

You are correct. Someday I'll get out of here.

Well, there is a reason that so many people who choose to willingly leave the earth for space are from Ohio...
