I just looked at 538 and saw this:

"When asked to rate their feelings about the video of Trump’s lewd comments, 69 percent of Democrats said they had a 'very negative' impression, but only 22 percent of Republicans felt the same; 10 percent of Republicans said that the video made them feel positively"

He may not be losing as many votes as people think.

Well, there's a few different things to tease out here, though. It's not a question of whether self-identified Republicans decide to vote for Hillary Clinton. That's very unlikely. The much more important questions are:

1) What response do voters who don't self-ID as Democratic or Republican have?

2) What effect does it have, not on the preferences, but on the turnout of committed Democratic or Republican voters?

And, you know, if 22% of self-identified Republicans had a very negative impression of Trump's comments - you know, if half of those people stay home instead of voting, that's a huge fucking problem for Trump already in and of itself. Even before you start talking about self-identified independents.

I agree, I'm just wary of people overstating how devastating this whole thing is for Trump. Some of those Republicans who feel negatively might still vote for him because they think Clinton is so much worse.

I get nervous when people talk about Clinton having the election sewn up because I worry about people not bothering to vote since they think it'll go fine without them.

Yeah, "said something crude ten years ago" is not as negative to me as "married to a rapist/serial sexual harasser in the here and now and has never apologized to the victims for the terrible things she said to them."

Not that I'm voting for him either. A pox on all of them. I include Johnson in that.

Oh, it's the person who thinks "married to an alleged rapist" is worse than "being an alleged rapist." I'm sorry you're so fucked up, but luckily, normal people think doing something awful is worse than being related to someone who did something awful.

Yes, except the rape allegations against Bill are credible, and the allegations against Donald are not:

When even Jezebel is doubting a rape allegation, well.

To be fair, though, most rank and file Republicans are actually Tea Partiers. By which I mean they hold to a more extreme version of traditional conservatism (the Tea Party just gave a name to it.) The more intellectual brand of conservatives have all bailed already; you're right in that I think by this point Trump will have lost all the supporters he could lose. Everyone else is either a die-hard, or a weasel politician playing the long game.

Or someone who thinks Hillary is still worse.

Well yeah, they're stupid too.
