Can you sleep on public transport? 😴

[personal profile] caerbannog 2016-10-10 10:19 pm (UTC)(link)
I wish I could but I can't.

Nope. I can't sleep anywhere but laying down. Well, occasionally when I've doped myself up on a tranquilizer and benadryl, I've managed to nod off a tiny bit on a plane. But other than that, no.

I can sleep on a plane but that's it.

I can sleep almost anywhere. I fell asleep in the middle of Otakon one year.

Ohh yeah. I sleep on trains all the time.

Yeah. It's certainly not the most comfortable place to lay, no, but I make it work as best I can. And I've slept in places more uncomfortable than that (to me), so...

I can sleep pretty much anywhere - so, yes. I'm scared to though, because I might miss my stop. But I sleep on longer bus trips.

I can doze but not really sleep. I'm too paranoid to sleep deeply.

Very, very rarely. But tbh I wouldn't want to be too prone to drifting off because I'd feel too vulnerable. It's easier when I'm with other people (drifted off today, but was sitting right next to my fiancee). On, like, 6-7 hour bus/train rides I'm pretty good at falling asleep though.

Sometimes

Re: Can you sleep on public transport? 😴

(Anonymous) 2016-10-10 10:50 pm (UTC)(link)
No, sadly, even when I'm "supposed" to. I don't get why airplanes design the seats so your head is pushed forward... like, you can't sit back all the way, you're always contorted in a weird position. Plus, space is so tight and the last couples times I've been on a plane, I haven't even been able to put the seat back (something broken?) and even if you do put the seat back, that's like a whopping two inch decline and doesn't make a difference.

I also took an all night bus once, and failed to sleep. Seriously awful. I think I just need to lie down in order to sleep. Doesn't help that I tend to get bad insomnia in my normal life, but yeah.. Wish I could though, because I travel so much and don't function well on no sleep.

I can sometimes nod off in trains if I'm really-really tired, but not really sleep.

If I'm tired enough.

I've dozed off on buses many times, which is a problem because my bus ride is not all that long...

I can. I mostly don't, because I'd rather just be awake and I don't need to sleep much, but I could if I wanted to

No, I can't sleep in public at all. I start to panic even trying to close my eyes for a minute. I'm paranoid. :(

To date I've dozed/slept on buses, trains and ferries. Usually 3hrs+ or night runs. The ferry was probably the weirdest. Night crossing, a bunch of really exhausted people kipping on couches and/or the floor in a closed lounge. I haven't yet slept on a plane, but I'm usually too excited flying, and I've only gone on small hops.

I actually love the sensation of dozing/sleeping inside a vehicle. Hotbunking in a truck was the best thing, cause the engine is right under the bed, kinda vibrating you to sleep.

Yes. I've slept past my stop on trains a couple of times.

Yes, if I'm traveling with someone else I know. Alone, I can doze off on a plane if I have a window seat and the person next to me gives off benevolent vibes.

If I'm tired enough, yeah. When I was in college, I'd fall asleep standing up on the bus and only wake up when the bus took a sharp turn.

Oh, to count the times I missed my bus stop in the morning...

Hell, I've fallen asleep AT bus stops.

I've never had to make such a long ride on public transit for that to be an issue, but I've slept on plane rides and longer train rides.

On a plane, yes. Otherwise, I only do it if I'm with someone else. I can do it, but I don't because as a woman, I'm super paranoid.

I wouldn't dare. Someone would rob me.

All the time, since I was in high school. I shouldn't, but it's hard not to when you're really tired. :/
