I think a lot of people took that out of context "you know science, I know the city" line in some trailer as "here's yet another stereotypical 'street smart' black character".
I was delighted when the movie clarified that she "knew the city" because she was a huge geek herself and had read all about it.

Eh, I think they both subverted the "street smart black character" trope and played it straight in some ways. That said, I'd rather take your positive perspective than fixate on the negative.

That's what I thought, too. "Street smart" characters tend toward things like "I know a place we can go where somebody will know somebody who can make X happen" whereas Patty was more "On this spot in 1896..."
