I feel like some fandoms are good for this (like GOT), but I honestly feel that the more a fandom is about shipping and the less it is about meta, the worse this phenomenon is.

I agree actually

Shipping is the cancer of fandom. If it can be contained and excised then sometimes you can have a decent fandom, if not then a fandom is nearly always doomed.

Depends on the fandom and the fans, in my literature fandom there is a juggernaut ship but nuance is rife.

I find it is worst when the fandom involves adult/children interactions, and the adult is harsh with the children. Then you get a total shitstorm from the angry tweens and teens who (simply by virtue of being tweens and teens) have no sense of nuance or understanding of anything beyond the tween-teen world.

DA

It's light-years between the usual overreaction by tweens, and complete 100% confirmed grade-A assbagginess to kids, like with Snape's behavior.

Go fellate a hippogriff, Sirius; your mouth is big enough for it.

Well that escalated quickly.

Ayrt is trying to get a reaction from "guessing which person posting in the James bashing threads is Sirius Black"-anon.

Guessing-anon is impressed by your baiting skills but suspects Sirius is still busy on tumblr or something.
