Second Presidential Debate

(Anonymous) 2016-10-10 10:48 pm (UTC)(link)
Anyone else watch that crazy show.

Highlights include:
-First 30 minutes being a slapfight.
-No handshake!
-Trump humping a chair.
-Awkward zooms onto Clinton's face.
-*sniff*
-Trump saying that if president he will use his power to persecute his opponent.
-That fly.
-Trump lies! So many to choose from (Warren Buffet not paying taxes, NO HE DID NOT TWEET ABOUT THAT SEX TAPE!, He doesn't know Putin.)
-And one of the best...Trump said that Canadians come to the USA allll the time for medical procedures. Because that is how awesome OUR healthcare system is.

That last one made me laugh. Yeah, our healthcare system is totally amazing. That's why I went so many pain-filled months hoping I wouldn't need to get my wisdom tooth removed.

Warren Buffet responded

(Anonymous) 2016-10-10 11:59 pm (UTC)(link)
"Answering a question last night about his $916 million income tax loss carryforward in 1995, Donald Trump stated that "Warren Buffett took a massive deduction." Mr. Trump says he knows more about taxes than any other human. He has not seen my income tax returns. But I am happy to give him the facts.

My 2015 return shows adjusted gross income of $11,563,931. My deductions totaled $5,477,694, of which allowable charitable contributions were $3,469,179. All but $36,037 of the remainder was for state income taxes.

The total charitable contributions I made during the year were $2,858,057,970 of which more than $2.85 billion were not taken as deductions and never will be. Tax law properly limits charitable deductions.

My federal income tax for the year was $1,845,557. Returns for previous years are of a similar nature in respect to contributions, deductions and tax rates.

I have paid federal income tax every year since 1944, when I was 13. (Though, being a slow starter, I owed only $7 in tax that year.) I have copies of all 72 of my returns and none uses a carryforward.

Finally, I have been audited by the IRS multiple times and am currently being audited. I have no problem in releasing my tax information while under audit. Neither would Mr. Trump - at least he would have no legal problem"

Rich Canadians occasionally cross the border if there's a hotshot American specialist they want to see. Americans of all stripes get their prescriptions filled in Canada because it's about a tenth of the price.

And there's been an occasional situation of Canadians coming across the border to get procedures done that they won't do for free under the Canadian healthcare system up there for whatever reason, but this is not like, some common thing or something. Not at all.

It's by and large people not wanting to wait for elective surgeries. Life-saving surgeries don't have a queue (for obvious reasons), you get those right away, which means that people electing to have one for non-critical, improvement-of-life reasons sometimes have to wait several months. So sometimes wealthy people say "fuck that" and cross the border.

Also plastic surgery.

It's Republican presidents in a nutshell: "Yes, I'm a draft dodger and tax cheat, that makes me qualified to be Commander in Chief AND reform the tax code."

I really loved Hillary's obvious internal rage during Trump's "locker room talk" bit. Mostly because I was right there with her.

Whatever you do, do not use the fitness centers on Trump property. I hear the locker rooms are disgusting.
