Re: How to deal with a hypochondriac friend (when you're sort of mentally ill)?

That is a tough one. Can you be upfront with her and say that you want to keep your medical stuff just between you and your doctor?

my last roommate was a hypochondriac and she would always go to me with her anxiety (which would have been fine if she was also willing to listen to me about my problems/anxiety but she wasn't) but I can only imagine someone also projecting on to you, that would be super frustrating. Being upfront and telling her to stop is the only way I can think to deal with it.

I could be, I guess, it's just that I've sort of shared the info freely with her before, so that makes asking her to stop altogether a bit...odd, I guess.

Problem is, I only realized her hypochondriac tendencies later.

Mmm that is a problem and I see from above she doesn't realize she is being unreasonable, which is also a problem. Still, as long as you think she won't freak out, I would consider just saying "hey, I know we've talked about it in the past but from now on can we not talk about that so much? Its beginning to make me uncomfortable, I know you mean well, its just my personal hang up" and go from there.
