Your favorite autumn foods!

(Anonymous) 2016-10-19 10:55 pm (UTC)(link)
I don't HAVE to wait until fall to enjoy them, of course, but... this time of year really puts me in the mood for soup, hot chocolate and almost any baked goods with pumpkin in them. How about you?

Soup! I eat it year round, but this seems to be the season most people eat it in so I'm more likely to be able to have it.

Thanksgiving food- turkey, stuffing, mashed potatoes.
Turkey noodle soup (which my mom makes with the leftover turkey and bones)
baked chicken and veggies.
Crepes (made with leftover chicken).
Really any soup. I'll eat soup year round, but autumn has the best soups.
Beef stew.
Pie (but not pumpkin. I like pecan or any nut pie and any fruit pie)
peppermint ice cream- more of a winter thing, but starts showing up in Autumn.

Ox tail soup. And also tomato and chili soup.

Apple crumbles too. And blackberry crumbles. But not apple and blackberry crumble.

Mmm, crumble. And crisp. I like them with any fruit, though.

Fresh apples, cider and cider donuts.

When you say cider, do you mean just apple juice or do you mean actual cider?

Re: Your favorite autumn foods!

(Anonymous) 2016-10-19 11:15 pm (UTC)(link)
nayrt, but in the U.S., unfiltered apple juice is "actual cider". The alcoholic stuff is usually called "hard cider". I'm sorry, but I get a little annoyed when people (usually Brits) act like Americans are doing it wrong. We're two different countries, we have different terms for different things and they're both correct.

Hey, you are doing it wrong. Drop the usual american posturing and just accept it on this one. Cider is alcoholic, apple juice is the non-alcoholic stuff, dolphinfucker.

Pumpkin pie and the great mac and cheese that I make at Christmas are my favorites. But it's still in the 70s/80s here (SF bay area, California) so it's a bit hard to get into those foods when it's so warm out (and all I really want is watermelon salads and tropical drinks).

Weather report says it's supposed to cool down this weekend, and I don't need expect it to really get much above 70 again the rest of the year. Maybe in the South Bay or inland.

Soon! Soon it will be the time for comfy delicious treats.

Aww, that's too bad. I envy the nice weather the Bay area gets in fall, though!

Any sqaush soup. Mmm.

Eggnog I guess? Because it's the only time it's available. Otherwise I would appreciate its deliciousness year round.

I vote for making your own! I bet it'd be even more delicious. :)

I've never tried, is it hard?

Re: Your favorite autumn foods!

(Anonymous) 2016-10-20 12:45 am (UTC)(link)
DA

I think all you need is a good recipe and a blender.

Re: Your favorite autumn foods!

(Anonymous) 2016-10-20 12:53 am (UTC)(link)
I confess I've never tried either, because I don't care for eggnog, but...

It doesn't look too bad? If you don't mind the raw eggs, then not accidentally scrambling them is probably the trickiest part. You're basically making a warm, boozy drinkable custard, right?

Making pumpkin soup in one of those baby pumpkins. Can only really do it in fall cause pumpkin season, but I look forward to it every year.
