Even if we go with the theory that Loki was brainwashed in Avengers (which hasn't been proven/shown and is in fact just a theory), he sure as hell wasn't in Thor. He fucked shit up of his own free will and loved it.

Versus Bucky being 100% brainwashed and tortured. For 70 years. With no free will whatsoever.

Fuck this comparison.

They are clearly comparing how fandom woobifies each character and how annoying they find it.

(Anonymous) 2016-10-19 11:03 pm (UTC)(link)
Except there's a difference between woobifying a villain and woobifying an actual victim??

I love Loki's character type and hate Bucky's, but this isn't rocket science.

(Anonymous) 2016-10-19 11:04 pm (UTC)(link)
Some people don't like woobies regardless of their tragic backstory.

(Anonymous) 2016-10-19 11:06 pm (UTC)(link)
Cool, comparing Loki to Bucky is still a shit comparison. Compare Bucky to like...Natasha, or Loki to Nebula or something, idk. Not "asshole who made shitty choices" and "dude who was tortured for decades until he had no free will".

(Anonymous) 2016-10-19 11:11 pm (UTC)(link)
But...anon is comparing the woobified personifications of both characters.

(Anonymous) 2016-10-19 11:13 pm (UTC)(link)
And I'm saying there's a difference between saying a brainwashed torture victim with no free will is a woobie/does nothing wrong, and saying an actual asshole is a woobie/does nothing wrong.

Like, excusing Bucky is a fairly linear process (he had literally no choice), versus excusing Loki requires an entire rollercoaster of logic.

(Anonymous) 2016-10-20 12:04 am (UTC)(link)
To put it another wayy maybe: the woobification is more textually justified in one case

(Anonymous) 2016-10-19 11:17 pm (UTC)(link)
But it still barely makes any sense. None of the Woobiefied versions of Bucky I've come across make me go, 'Oh, that sounds sooo much like fandom!Loki. They are practically interchangeable.'

What anon above me said. I mean Bucky was actually victimized, that's his backstory. In that sense the most you could say is that Loki is woobified, but Bucky is an actual woobie. or, you know, trauma victim.

(Anonymous) 2016-10-19 11:19 pm (UTC)(link)
Exactly, thank you for wording it better.

Yes! 1000x yes!

Yup. Exactly. There are no similarities between the characters at all.

(Anonymous) 2016-10-20 02:45 am (UTC)(link)
It doesn't even matter if a character has canon trauma, all that matters is if the fangirls are attracted to the male character. Yes it's always a male character that attract these types of fans.

Fandom and it's #protectbucky2k16 mentality is probably why everyone hates them as a group. Loki might not have the same justification since he's a villain but the fandom coddling him is the same annoying shit.

If the OP had worded it this way I wonder what difference it would have made?

Because it's not what they said. Even if it may have been the point they were making.

The way it stands it kind of sounds antagonistic. Like their no.1 woobie is no longer the fandom darling and said new darling is just a rip off anyways.

DA

Like their no.1 woobie is no longer the fandom darling and said new darling is just a rip off anyways.

In my experience, that's what most of this sort of thing boils down to, petty jealousy that their darling is not or is no longer the fandom favorite.

And I've seen people do that with female characters, too. It manifests as Flawless Awesome Goddess who is always right about everything and can do no wrong rather that woobie who can do no wrong, but it still happens.
