Re: So, how about that gaybaiting in Yuri on Ice?

AYRT

That's the point I'm making. Why make fujoshi-specific anime (that's entirely bait and subtext) when fujoshi will spend a shit ton of money on anime that doesn't rely on this.

Most fujoshi would be thrilled if the popular pairings because "canon." The only reason the creators don't include actual gay relationships is that they would alienate those viewers who dislike gay relationships and cause a controversy. Sure, it makes money, but I don't really think it's that great of a practice.

DA

I'm guessing you're not Japanese and have never lived in Japanese culture. Don't speak for them. This isn't made for you, and that's fine.

Because fujoshis also like being pandered to? Because having canon ships means also having ships sunk and that's not fun when the sunk ship is yours?

And seeing as YOI characters are based on actual skaters, it's no wonder they won't make anything canon.

Nnnnnno, most fujoshi actually prefer that things remain subtext so that they can ship what they want without having their ships definitively proven to be non-canon.

Source: I speak Japanese and I've been into the Japanese side of fandom for years now.
