I'd say go with it, and if 'called' on it just go "Yeah, I was inspired by their AU, but I wanted to do my own take on it."

Yeah, if I felt too paranoid about it I'd go one further an mention it in my notes.

Yeah. For me it depends on how connected it is? Like I once saw fanart of some of the characters from a show all wearing cowboy hats and I kept thinking about it and over a year later I wrote a Western AU fic. But the person went inactive then deleted their tumblr before the fic started posting so I felt really awkward naming them specifically as the inspiration.
