Being a weeaboo has always been problematic. Weeaboos are pathetic.

I love that apparently being fans of something is okay UNLESS it's anime/manga. Then you get a special term and you're pathetic.

Not strictly true - you've got Anglophiles and Koreaboos and whatnot.
I personally would only consider "too much" the people who because they watched a thousand anime think they're the experts on Japan and that Japan is the True Heaven on Earth or somesuch. Those people are obnoxious.
But there are overzealous weirdos in every hobby, so *shrug*

ANGLOPHILES ARE TO BE REFERRED TO AS TEABOOS

thank you for your time

I love it :D

This used to be divided by sex. Men's interests and hobbies were respectable, women's were childish or suspect. It's still at work, but happily not as generally accepted.

Compare football goal glee with teenage idol squee: which one is good for your social status?

Did you forget that furries still get a lot of shit?

Pretty sure weeaboo is not just being a fan, it's actually being the kind of fan that's an embarrassment for other fans. The kind that keeps throwing badly pronounced Japanese words into their sentences, the kind that wears things like Naruto headbands to school, the kind who assumes every Japanese person is an Otaku and annoys them about it, who thinks all of Japan is like in the anime they watch. That's a weeaboo.

That's a fair distinction.
