I guess it just doesn't quite fit with Tolkien for me unless it is only elves? A reincarnation AU where elves were back on Earth for some reason rather than in Valinor I could get behind. And I like the idea of Modern AUs where the characters are still Middle Earth races. Like, modern technology, just with elves and dwarves and ainur and hobbits. But straight up Modern AUs or Reincarnation AUs with dwarves and hobbits (which is what I usually see) don't seem to work for me.
