(Possibly TMI but) I just bought my first sex toy!

(Anonymous) 2016-10-22 09:32 pm (UTC)(link)
Yay! So excited and a bit nervous and I don't know why because it's completely normal and lots of people have them, but still. I've been considering getting a vibrator for ages now, but a few days ago I suddenly decided that YES now is the time. Hate to admit it but it was partly because of a Buzzfeed article about cheap vibrators. It made choosing one waaaay easier than just setting out on my own. Though of course the one I wanted didn't ship to my country. Ugh. Still, I'm happy with my final choice. It's very shiny. Hopefully it's not just pretty but also good at its job.

Sorry for the TMI but I'm happy and it's not something I want to post on FB.

If anyone has any sex toy stories or advice to share with this novice, please go ahead.

Yay! Vibrators are so...iffy. They always seem to be made of stuff that's rock-hard, which I don't find comfortable. But i do like the *vibrating* aspect. I need to find a ...squishy vibrator, heh.

I agree. It's not that easy finding one that is just right.

I do have a 10 speed/pulse squishy, bendable one, but haven't found another like it since.

Ooh, interesting. Squishy and bendy sounds good. :)

It's the best one I've had yet. Unfortunately it is a few years old so I don't remember brand or model name. The tip is shaped like a glans, slit and all, and the shaft is ribbed and can bend a lot. Translucent in purple and clear soft material.

Is it a Jelly one? Because those look squishy and flexible.

That is awesome! I am a sex toy fanatic (I own... so many) and I am glad you found one you're happy with!

My only advice would be to avoid jelly toys completely, and try and avoid TPR if you can. Jelly toys can be toxic, and TPR itself isn't toxic, but it is slightly porous and thus can absorb liquid and other germs, so you need to keep a closer eye on them and probably replace them every now and then.

Thanks for the advice! As the expert, how would you recommend cleaning my new toy? After every use, I assume, but is just water and soap good enough? Do I need to pay attention to how I store it? This is what I got, if it helps:

In general, I use an antibacterial soap (which I always have a lot of sitting around, but normal soap is fine if you don't) and water, and just be very careful not to get it in the battery compartment or anything.

Storage shouldn't be a problem! The only materials you have to be more careful about storing are porous ones, so what you are getting should be fine. Just try not to drop it, I have broken vibrators before that way. (I also used to have a loft bed though.)

Thanks so much for your help! The site itself really only advertised its own brand of wipes and other cleaning products but most things I'd read said soap and water were just fine. I'm happy to get confirmation though.

Wait, just thought of one more question: is it best if I clean it right after use, or can it wait? Obviously it'll probably be best to do it as quickly as possible, but if it does its job right I can't imagine cleaning being on anyone's mind.

Yeah a lot of sites try and sell their own special sex toy cleaners, but I've never found them necessary.

It can wait, though its very messy you can wipe it down, you know. I usually clean my toys right before use, personally.

I'm not a big fan of vibration, but I finally discovered some fantasy silicon dildos that work with my body and OH, this is why penetration gets as much attention and praise as it does! This is actually fun and pleasant.

But even though I'm not a huge vibration fan most people sing its praises so good luck to you!

for, vibration took some getting used to, and getting higher quality vibrators helped a lot (rumbly vibrations instead of buzzy vibrations), but as someone who always had a super hard time getting off with just my hand, they are a godsend. People who get off fine with just fingers seem to be more ambivalent to them, in my experience

The first time I tried a vibe with deep rumbly vibrations I yelped "I CAN FEEL IT IN MY BONES!" and that was just too weird for me. It didn't hurt at all, it just felt weird. I think I've got a fairly unpadded crotch though.

YANA, not fond of the vibrating aspect either. It downright annoys me.

yeah, I'm too into vibration either. it doesn't feel bad or anything, but it doesn't do much for me. for me, it's all about the penetration. can't really have a satisfying orgasm without it

I would advise that even if it says it's waterproof, you might want to avoid using it in the shower or else make really, really sure any battery compartment and whatnot is properly, completely shut.
