[Malcolm in the Middle]

(Anonymous) 2016-10-24 10:34 pm (UTC)(link)
I have no opinion on Lois one way or the other, but wow, her appearance really looks dated. Was Malcolm in the Middle really so long ago??

(Anonymous) 2016-10-24 10:51 pm (UTC)(link)
That is the typical middle/upper lower class mom look. I still see it.

(Anonymous) 2016-10-24 10:53 pm (UTC)(link)
I haven't seen a hairstyle like that in a hot minute. All the suburban moms where I live have that same ridiculous bob that's like 3 inches longer in front than back.

(Anonymous) 2016-10-24 11:04 pm (UTC)(link)
That is the upper middle class "Let me see your manager" hairstyle.

(Anonymous) 2016-10-24 11:08 pm (UTC)(link)
lol

(Anonymous) 2016-10-25 07:44 pm (UTC)(link)
That's my manager's hairstyle! (am in UK though)

The Suburban Bitch Bob!

I have two friends who got married and, after having kids, they both started wearing their hair like that. It's really weird.

(Anonymous) 2016-10-24 11:46 pm (UTC)(link)
Probably because it's low maintenance, something that's a lot more important to you after having kids.

Yes, and that's one of them. Who says everyone has to choose their own 'yooneek' hair? Fashions are ok.

It ran from 2000 to 2006, so... yeah.

I can sympathize with her. But at the same time, she was absolutely abusive. And while I used to love this show, I tried to rewatch recently and the whole emotional abuse as humor just didn't seem so funny anymore.

(Anonymous) 2016-10-24 11:30 pm (UTC)(link)
I always kinda felt sorry for her, even when I was a kid and not sure why I felt bad for her. Then again, I also used to feel sorry for Al Bundy, so yeah.

(Anonymous) 2016-10-25 12:00 am (UTC)(link)
My husband likes to say that as he's gotten older, he's gained a lot of respect for Al Bundy. Al Bundy worked his ass off at a shit job to provide for his family. He singlehandedly kept a roof over their heads and food in the fridge, with little to no appreciation from his wife or kids, but he kept at it because it was the right thing to do.

This show always makes me laugh, even though the characters can all be pretty terrible! I have a rather fierce mom, but she's not usually this bad.

But I honestly don't know how Lois deals with four boys are nutty and naughty as hers are!

People talk smack about her, really? I guess it's not surprising when people have these hovering helicopter mommies now, but this is what 70s and 80s moms were like, yo.

Some of her neuroses reminded me of my mom;..but that's not something you easily say in public.

(Anonymous) 2016-10-25 03:15 am (UTC)(link)
For whatever reason, I'm having a really hard time articulating this thought. But, i think that Lois and most of the rest of the characters are exaggerated to seem more like how most teenagers see their parents, so most of the people watching are going to see something and go, "Oh god, I remember when Mom/Dad/whoever used to act like that. That was crazy," even though some of that is just kids being kids who are embarrassed by their parents. Of course, sometimes your parents actually are that neurotic and/or a little crazy, which can make it kind of awkward. Crazy runs in my family, and there are certain tropes that hit a little close to home.

I think I would have been like her as a mom (...which is one of the reasons I''m not a mom) -- someone who cares passionately about raising their kids to be good people but is so anxious about it and about not letting anything slip that she has no concept of "pick your battles" and just about loses her damn mind over every little thing, even when she's exhausted.

(Anonymous) 2016-10-25 04:37 am (UTC)(link)
I always wished my mom was like her. She genuinely loves her family.

(Anonymous) 2016-10-25 04:53 am (UTC)(link)
This is the most depressing comment I've ever seen on this comm.

(Anonymous) 2016-10-25 07:48 pm (UTC)(link)
You haven't been around long then.

(Anonymous) 2016-11-07 03:13 am (UTC)(link)
I liked her until the final episode. SHe lost all sympathy from me when she ruined Malcom's life for her own petty vision of his future.
