I've watched the entire 3 series run of Miss Fisher's Murder Mysteries and I love them.

I've also just begun reading the books, so I do get what you're saying. Hearing Phryne's inner monologues regarding the men she is associating with (and really anyone she comes into contact with) are a big part of what makes them so much fun.

I never got into this series as a kid/teen even though I was really into fantasy... and in hindsight, I don't regret it at all for the reasons you describe.

Tell her, and deal with the mopeyness. I've been here before, and it's honestly more emotionally taxing to try to spare feelings than it is to just admit the truth of the matter. People and priorities change, and even if you want to RP like you used to, it's sometimes just not feasible. If she can't deal with that, it's on her.
