Re: Fandom Drama

i thought the other paladins were 17 with shiro being 19 so i don't get the issue.

Re: Fandom Drama

(Anonymous) 2016-10-27 01:43 am (UTC)(link)
wasn't there drama because Shiro was older than the others and if "you shipped Sheith, you are promoting pedophilia" or something along those lines?

Re: Fandom Drama

(Anonymous) 2016-10-27 01:56 am (UTC)(link)
i'm not in the fandom so i have no idea but how on earth would shipping sheith be pedophilia? none of them are 10 yr olds.

not a blessed clue on this earth

(this is why I stay far away and play contently in original universe)

Re: Fandom Drama

yeah... i'm starting to be glad this show never snagged me enough for fandom. i'm just going to enjoy it as is and stay far, far away from the fanbase.

ditto

(I wonder if they'd lose their collective minds if we tossed Voltron: The Third Dimension at them. Let them deal with that horrific mess of a series. Or is that too evil?]

i've got no clue what that is but from googling it it looks horrific, holy shit.

Oh, believe me - the only redeeming factor was some of the original VAs were in it and Tim Curry was voicing Lotor. Other than that - so, so bad. I refer you to the episode where Keith finds out that Zarkon is only acting like he's been reformed and promptly gets bespelled by Haggar with special magic dust that makes him think he's a lion. Seriously.

Re: Fandom Drama

(Anonymous) 2016-10-27 02:43 am (UTC)(link)
how... how did they get tim curry?? HOW.

and you've actually made me want to check this out purely for the crack-factor because that sounds so amazingly stupid i might actually enjoy it.

He must have needed the paycheck - or was doing it for the lulz

http://kisscartoon.me/Cartoon/Voltron-The-Third-Dimension - and enjoy. I believe the episode I referenced is the 10th

oh, thank you very much. :)

Welcome!

(I will confess I did do a few fics that lifted that idea but I had the sense *not* to share them online. I think I took Haggar's powder one step further had Keith actually *turn* into the Black Lion, but I did the lazy cop-out of it being a fevered dream of Allura's)

Abuse/pedophilia/toxic/problematic/etc. are just the most popular buzzwords for ship hate. I mean men in their 30s or older being shipped together have gotten called pedo because of height difference or 'maturity' or whatever.

That's about as bad as the teenager who said Junkrat was still a child for being age 25 and if you ship him with anyone over that age (especially with Roadhog), you are a pedophile.

That whole fucking post was just...oh my god. Are you shitting me? You shit little teenager who has yet to even KNOW what RL is like for adults? Yeah no, piss off you little shit.

i... right well. good to know fandom is going through a spiral of loosing it's fucking mind again.

i better hope nothing new grabs my fancy because it's going to end in tears isn't it?

Re: Fandom Drama

[personal profile] otakugal15 2016-10-27 02:20 am (UTC)(link)
They always do that. I ANY character is at 18 or just barely into their early 20s, you are automatically a pedophile if you ship them with some one who is 16-17. Sometimes even 18.

It's fucking ridiculous. These are the kids that weren't old enough to remember the Hermione Bicycle days, Kakashi/Sakura, Logan/Rogue, Obi-Wan/Anakin and Qui-Gon/Obi-Wan, etc. Those were and are still super popular BECAUSE we grew up with them. And it's not like we constantly ship them with the younger one AS a teenager. The majority of us age them up, forever and always.

But, as I've mentioned before, these little shits on Tumblr don't give a shit. They're as bad as the people who wanted LJ purged of any and all porn (especially gay porn) because they can't wrap their little stupid minds around the fact that canon age doesn't have to apply to fanfic.

My first fandoms were anime where the Gundam Wing pilots and Sailor Scouts were all supposed to be 13-14. Can you imagine the fallout now?

Though probably the best post I ever saw was someone on an adult forum with an extremely explicit MLP 'clop' icon complaining that anyone shipping Steven Universe characters, even the thousand year old gems, was pedo because 'That's a kid's show! You shouldn't sexualize kid's shows!'
Completely seriously too. Entirely unaware of the irony. It was fantastic.

I think they were all 15 with Trowa supposedly being a year older. Not like that makes a huge difference. XD

Oh yeah, the fallout would be spectacular. I'm just glad that the Gundam Wing fandom, being as small as it is now, is mostly us old-timers who understand that it's a completely different universe and that the GW Pilots were all basically forced to grow up to such a degree that their age didn't matter. Even Duo, who could be sort of teh playfullest of the bunch, was far more mature for his age than he ever let on. Same went for Quatre.

It only really mattered when people realized that they were fighting a teenager in the midst of heavy battle and that usually meant they were about to die because, whoops, they suddenly underestimate their opponent.

Sailor Moon, due to SMC, is getting that whole beat down, though luckily it isn't as bad as COULD have been had they kept the original age and schooling for Mamoru (first publications had him in college, but that has since been changed over the years to keep it less...squicky).

Re: Fandom Drama

(Anonymous) 2016-10-27 11:30 pm (UTC)(link)
Mamoru was a second year in high school in the manga (11th grade) while Usagi was a second year in middle school (8th grade, plus she states that she is 14). For whatever reason, the original anime made Mamoru a college student.

Huh, I thought it was the other way around. The more you know! *star thingy*

Either way, that was still rather squicky.

Re: Fandom Drama

(Anonymous) 2016-10-27 04:04 am (UTC)(link)
Not gonna lie, the whole Master/Padawan thing squicks me.

But I deal with it in an adult fashion, aka by reading the tags and SCROLLING PAST stories that feature Q/O or O/A.

Heh, I love them, personally, especially since by EpIII, they were on equal footing and so close as friends, the freakin' movie novel felt like a literal love story. So much so that Padme put some emphasis on the whole "You love him, don't you?" when Obi-Wan went to speak to her. She repeated that twice and Obi-Wan was in a very telling silence.

But, as you say, it squicks you and everyone has their preferences.

I just wish Tumblr would realize that triggers and squicks are two different things and that things in FANDOM don't usually correlate with the real world. :/
