Re: Do you hide your nerd powerlevel?

To an acceptable level. It's fine to talk about most casual gaming now or wear apparel with little logos on them. It is not fine to talk about slashing the two leads in the movie you watched yesterday.

I'm curious as to why? The second point I mean. I mean, people come out of movies and say things like, "Wow do you think Clint and Natasha are dating?" and no one thinks it's weird, but if you come out saying, "Wow, Tony and Steve sure seemed like they were flirting." it's weird?

(Sorry for Avengers example, I was drawing a blank on who to use. XD)

To your question: yes, if you're talking to people who have never heard of fandom or slash before.

And "wow ha ha Tony and Steve got pretty flirty there lol" is a league away from "I ship this and would seriously like to see them in a romantic story written by fans with dicks touching in it."

nayrt

Bringing up homoerotic subtext/whatever is not acceptable? Like duh saying to a complete stranger how you want to read sex fic about a slash pairing is weird, but it'd be weird to say that about a het pairing. Don't have different standards for gay and straight.

I find this hilarious because that's exactly what talk about with my friends when I walk out of movies. Sorrynotsorry.

I don't know why you would have to be sorry if you're around friends who are also geeks. I was assuming the situation was in general, assuming your average peer as opposed to a situation in which no power level hiding is necessary.

Or else why would the question need to be asked? I don't hide my powerlevel on FS, obviously.

Oh lol I thought the sentiment was that it was just wrong to slash in public.

I definitely do that. But also, I sort of don't care if some rando dude is eyeballing me over talking about the fact that I thought two other fictional dudes were totally doin' it.

Nah not morally wrong to slash in public, I was talking "fine" in terms of "socially acceptable assuming the listers are random people".

There are places like fandom where the entire point is to let your power level out so I figured the question wasn't talking about those.
