Online vs Offline

(Anonymous) 2016-10-30 08:27 pm (UTC)(link)
Are you nicer online or offline?
Are you more of an asshole online or offline?

Asking both since theoretically one or the other could tend to bring out both in a more extreme manner.

Eh, I'm probably equally assholish, but I'm also more opinionated about some things online? Not like rude, but I might comment on something online where IRL I would just let it slide and not respond.

Not entirely sure. I think I'm mostly the same. I tend to be involved in more social justice discussions offline just because of the nature of my field of choice and the things I are about IRL. Online I tend, at least now, to mostly stick to my fictional likes with only occasional comments in discussions of social justice related things.

I try to be nice both offline and online. People are still people when I can only interact with them through online comments.

I am fairly nice on and offline. But I am more "outgoing" online.

Sometimes when I'm too shy/unsure whether a comment will go over well (usually a slightly bawdy joke or really stupid pun), I post them anon. IRL, I'm just too shy to say them at all.

I'm too boring/self-deprecating to be an asshole to other people either IRL or online. :\

I barely speak offline. Talking to people in public always makes me feel like a fool. Even the briefest of "excuse mes" makes me want to die. I'm not nicer or more of an asshole offline -- I'm simply just there, avoiding conflict as best I can while silently hating everyone around me.

Nicer online, maybe? I have more time to think about what to say, so I probably say less heat of the moment mean things that I later regret, and nobody can see my resting bitch face.

It really depends on the situation. I'm usually quite nice, unless people are antagonistic or try to pull hierarchy on me.

I try to be nice on both. I have to admit, I've been super sarcastic on a gaming forum. Sometimes the anonymity is tempting and it's easy to vent.

I think I'm more likely to...?hold out? offline. As in, attempt to be more patient in real life.

But I think that's usually because I'm caught by surprise if someone crosses on of my boundaries so generally do not respond or let them no in time. While online get more leeway/time in responding to go "hey not cool"

I think offline I'm also more likely to show when I'm in a small snit. By the time I'm finished typing up a rant online it's usually (USUALLY) moved on and I close without posting.

Online everything is usually a bit muted on my end I guess, because the time to communicate makes you think a second or so more.

I think equal but in different ways.

irl I'm WAY more likely to actively do nice things (give away money, by people food, give people free shit), and I'm very patient when dealing with people/problems to the point where I'm kind of the go-to nice chill guy at work. But on the other hand people tend to find me very serious/intimidating/threatening so when there is some sort of confrontation I think I tend to come across as very harsh and probably more scary than whatever situation calls for.

online I'm much more blunt and aggressive, and much less likely to go out of my way to help people. But I'm also much more willing to give people the benefit of the doubt, and online I tend to default to thinking good things about people where as irl I'm very cynical about them.

I likely come across a bit meaner online, because I can state my opinion online and can be quite a bit more cynical. Offline... well there's not much reason for my thoughts to be widely aired offline because I don't have enough of a social life.
