Having bikes on the road is dangerous.

Empirically wrong. Many roads can accommodate mixed traffic as long as no one is being an asshole. Cyclists are safest following the rules of the road instead of awkwardly using sidewalks, which are shit in the United States for anything with wheels. And there's a spectacularly weird double-standard when it comes to bikes vs. busses, or bikes vs. horses, both of which are on the roads in my city and are much harder to get around than a cyclist.

And therein lies the problem. For every cyclist who can easily manage traffic and is respectful to drivers, there's five of them going 3 MPH refusing to signal and screaming SHARE THE ROAD. But if they cut in front of us and get hit and die we're the ones who get in trouble.

I think the "as long as they follow the rules" is the main problem. The city where I live has very few bike lanes and when they're on the street, cyclists constantly ignore even the most basic rules like stopping at a damn red light.

Running lights is dumb. However the solution is better education and enforcement rather than the righteous road rage advocated by many car advocates.

Oh yes, absolutely.
