Any recs? (Non OP recs are alright as well).

Love the Journey OST. Then there are several Final Fantasy OSTs that are great -my favourites are VI and IX (though X had some great tracks as well). Final Fantasy Crisis Core has one of the best game OSTs as well, imo.
I also really like the (orchestra versions of) Professor Layton and the Devil's Flute/and the Last Specter OST.

For remixed versions: OCReMix have a huge amount of great Final Fantasy remixes.

I didn't even like CC that much because I am annoyed at the compilation, but the music is pretty damn amazing. "The Price of Freedom" gets me every time T^T

Yes, absolutely. Wasn't a huge fan of the game itself, either, but the music was so great!

I just hate all the retconning, and the fact that they decided Cloud doesn't actually need a personality.

All of that, and Genesis (Angeal too, to a certain extent, but ugh, Genesis).

The crazy thing for me is that the story already had pathos built in! Why are they showing us Genesis' descent into madness or whatever when they could be showing Sephiroth's??????????????????

Right? So much wasted potential!

Also Cloud and Zack's relationship. I wish they'd either gone way more friendsy with them, or the opposite - that Zack had never met Cloud before getting thrown in with Hojo, but decided to take care of him anyway.

Then again, they shoved that little dialogue with Zack into ACC that annoyed the hell out of me. It's like somebody there is allergic to Cloud being good at shit or having a scrap of self-confidence. Yeesh.

(sorry, I have a lot of feelings about this haha)

(spoilers for FFVII ahead)
Yeah, one of my favorite things about Cloud was that he was so different from your typical JRPG hero. He's definitely my favorite and the most memorable. I love that he was such a loser that he invented this whole new backstory about himself and got so invested in it that he literally went catatonic when he remembered the truth. But then in the end he pulls through and becomes a truly kickass human being who stands on his own and doesn't need to lie to himself. That's cool as hell. (I know some people would interpret his story differently but that's how I interpret it because it's the most entertaining to me)

[personal profile] ketita 2016-11-03 06:49 am (UTC)(link)
It's a valid interpretation!
And I agree with you, that's part of why I liked him as well. That moment where he has to stand up in front of everybody and tell them... that takes a lot of courage. And then for them to follow him to the final battle anyway.
And I think it says something about being careful what you wish for, because in the end Cloud *is* technically as enhanced as a Soldier First. And even if he was using Zack's memories, it was still Cloud's actions, and I personally don't buy that everything was just Zack's personality; there are things Cloud does and says that aren't very Zack-like (though maybe my own headcanons are interfering there XD)
But like you said, the point is that in the end, Cloud *is* the hero, because that's what he chose to be.
Screw Advent Children and its personality destruction :(

Some of my favorites: World of Warcraft (espcially Wrath of the Lich King). Bastion. World of Goo. Braid.

If you would like a little taste of a bunch of types, listen to the Video Games Live albums.

I quite like the Uncharted 4 soundtrack, though I mostly use it to study cause it gets me super motivated.

Transistor, Bastion, Journey are my go-to playlist whenever I have to do work. Also the entirety of the modern era Touhou Project.

And recently I've also been listening to Crypt of the Necrodancer despite not playing the game because it's. Just. Soooo Catchy!

FF6
FF7
Castlevania SOTN
Chrono Trigger
Chrono Cross
Danganronpa
Danganronpa 2
Undertale
Silent Hill 3
Super Metroid

Select Start is a great videogame cover band that uses all traditional instruments.

The World Ends With You has a great soundtrack, as do the Katamari Damacy games. The various Kingdom Hearts OST are part of my "comfort food" music selections. And as mentioned above, it's hard to go wrong with Final Fantasy music. My favorites are FFXII and FFXIII, though X is great, too, and I'd be lying if I said I wasn't fond of the FFX-2 soundtrack as well. Skyrim's music is alternately soothing and blood-pumpingly awesome. The No More Heroes games have pretty awesome soundtracks as well.

I know I'm late to the party, but Sunless Sea has some of the BEST music.
