I am looking forward to the rants and whining about how well Dr. Strange will be doing in the US. It is doing fantastic overseas and has great reviews. I've already seen some people complaining that "OMG ppl are going to see this whitewashed mess instead of [insert indie film that no one has heard of and will be playing in like 6 cities]".

About *other* people benefiting from their marginalization. That is how it always works, surrounding every marginalized people there are a bunch of scam artists and hucksters from that group who get rich by helping whitey make media about their group. Take the JK Rowling thing, the loudest voices criticizing her were from the Native Americans involved in the industry which profits most from native media appearances, and which was pissed she hadn't paid them to help her exploit the Indian.

Yeah? Well they will just have to content with the extra salt in knowing that the movie will probably do amazingly well in China. It's already making monster money in territories like Hong Kong, Taiwan, Singapore, and Thailand.

Are there even any movie theaters in the Tibetan Autonomous Region, or Nepal? I don't think there are in Bhutan either.

I can't wait to see it! I am mad that I didn't buy tickets to see it in a Director's Suite. :( So I won't be able to eat delicious food while watching it.

It is a small theater room with only about 20 seats. And waiters deliver food to you during the movie.

From what I've heard, it sounds like Generic Entertaining Marvel Flick, which is kinda disappointing to me in the specific context of Doctor Strange? But also fair enough.

It's fairly classic, and it's an origin story (not sure you could have gotten around that, though), but I think the acting is really good, the characters are very well done and it actually captures the psychedelic-ness of the comics.

Yeah, I was kind of expecting this ever since I found out it was going to be an origin story, so it's not exactly a surprise.

But again, making something that would have been massively less popular just because I'd like it more would be completely stupid, so.

Mild Dr Strange spoilers

It was fun, and so damn trippy. I was mildly sad that Doormammu wasn't actually wreathed in flames and all demony, but having him being a cosmic entity makes much more sense with what they've been doing with the MCU so I can roll with it.

It'll be interesting to see if he comes back actually.

Oh and the mid-credit bit with Thor? Eeeeeeee, kinda getting stoked about Thor 3 again.

Yeah, I was like WTF Dormammu (apparently it's Cumberbatch doing the face capture) - but I thought the dark dimension was superbly done. I think they set up for so much, all option are open still.

Thor 3 might be good; Well, I'll go see it either way.

Yeah I'd heard it was Cumberbatch for that as well, which was cool, and he did look awesome and trippy as fucking balls. Basically a lot of the visuals in this movie were fantastic tbh and I liked what they did with the magic and what not.

But yeah there's a lot to build from with it and the later movies won't be bogged down with origin story stuff so hopefully we'll get some good stuff.

Ha, yeah I'm not holding out hope for anything super amazing since Thor 2 was... well, it happened. But we've got Valkyrie coming in that movie and I really like her from the comics so maybe she'll be good? And Hela too? Maybe? :P
