I think the most confusing part of that secret is where they argue that the "emo" kid is usually the "meaner of the two" and that's why the cliche plots suck...then they go off on Metis for being a jerk. Isn't that...what you want to see from the dynamic? *boggles*

Mmm...*thinks* I think the biggest problem I have with the secret is that the OP seems to say that HoneySyn treats Metis like the 'misunderstood hero' while Josh is shafted. Which is about as far from true as anything else I can think of - Metis acts the jerk (though the behavior is, at least in part, warranted), and the comic expressly states that he's being a jerk; it doesn't excuse his behavior in the least. Hell, Josh is probably treated the most sympathetically out of any character in the series by its creators, even though he's clearly imperfect, and the reason May was acting the idiot in the first place.

I mean, the OP has an obvious point: there are plenty of movies/comics/etc. out there that paint the 'emo kid' as an intelligent, misunderstood protagonist, while the 'jocks' are the dumb villains. That annoys me, too. But HoneySyn does not conform to that stereotype. If anything, the series is about taking those cliches and flipping them on their heads. And it certainly never says that May suffers more than anyone else does, just because he's ~~not an~~ emo.

Plus, um, every character in HoneySyn (with the exception of Jay, but that's probably only because we haven't seen much of him until now) has acted like a jerk before. That's normal, especially in light of the circumstances. I don't see a reason for the OP to go off on May just because he's acting like most anyone else would in the same situation.

Hee! That's cool, I agree with all of what you said, the circular logic of them hating May for acting the way they claim the "emo" kids should (and, hello, hypocrisy much?) was just the part that broke my brain the most.

I think they need to read it all the way through and realize that the cliche-2D-highschool student tone they're seeing is coming from Metis and not the writers. The writers more likely than not AGREE with the OP. And by later chapters, Metis might concede to them having a point as well.

Not to mention the "all of them are kids, and all of them are hurt" comment. That's usually WHY they belittle other groups and, you guessed it, act like jerks.

So, here's a long response about how I agree with you. XD

Also, LOL at the other HS secret in the post. Because you can't have a fandom for something that a) isn't turning a profit for someone, and/or b) isn't totally over and done with. How on earth did I ever write for TV fandoms? D:

Hahaha, to tell the truth, I hadn't quite understood what you meant by the circular logic the first time I read your comment, but then it clicked. And all I can say is: HAHAHAHA, I know, right? By now, I'm just sort of the opinion that the OP doesn't much like emo kids, so her reading of the comic (if she actually finished it, of course) is just a bit distorted by that.

Ah, Miss nuu and schumie would definitely concede the point. The first five chapters are told from May's POV, so there's obviously character bias there. But the authorial perspective is pretty clear in the way it almost explicitly maintains that stereotypes are for suckers. I just don't get how any reading of the comic could lead even a casual reader to believe that HoneySyn is trying to conform to the good!emo/bad!jock stereotype.

Basically: HEAR, HEAR. I'd just like to know whether or not the OP bothered to get past the first two chapters before she started ranting about how HoneySyn is apparently a lesson in 'the emo will always prevail' that happens to include gay.

Hahah, secret 6 sort of made me wince. I mean...almost ALL large fandoms (and quite a few small ones) revolve around currently running series, right? So unless the OP also has a thing against SPN, Dr. Who, Naruto, Bleach, Reborn!, One Piece, Kingdom Hearts, MOST ANYTHING AIRING TODAY, I fail to see how HoneySyn fic would be any different. Just because HoneySyn isn't published? I mean, it's not like the creators mind; schumie actually commented on something I wrote once skdjf;sdf *BLUSHBLUSH* and Miss nuu's given the okay on everything from fic to the kink meme. Sooo, why is it a problem?

I'M SORRY, I WENT TO YOUR JOURNAL AND FOUND YOUR FIC ABOUT METIS AND JOSH AND JOSH'S MOM, AND IT'S MAKING ME TOO HAPPY FOR ME TO CARE ABOUT THE OPs. @___@ But maybe I should finish it and say as much on your journal, rather than on fandomsecrets. XD

Secret six sounds like major butthurt, either from a fan who doesn't get enough attention, or a webcomic artist who doesn't have the same kind of following. Which isn't to say it's either, it just sounds like bad feelings rather than there actually being a problem with it.

LKS;DJFSDF LOL. UM. I'm really glad you liked it, haha. That fic was so very NOT intended to be serious, though, haha. As evidenced by the fact that half the fic is May/Josh's mom.

Oh gosh, I hope you're not right about number six...that would just be super sad. Although I do agree it feels more like 'bad feelings,' than anything else.
