*grabs soapbox* It fucks me off when fans will not accept that misogynist male characters can reform. Those characters' self-improvement provides a needed media example of how men can change. If it's impossible for a Spike or an Owen to do better, then we may as well chuck feminism now and just kill all the manz.

(Forgive me grabbing your comment to rant. If anyone wants to discuss the *&%(&*%ing date rape spray for the 120387456546th time, I will respond only with pictures of Boston terriers.)

I'm gonna dump my opinion here pre-emptively, just in case. We know now, form behind the scenes stuff, that the intention was that the spray only worked on Owen - it didn't affect the couple. (Don't ask me how. Pixie dust, whatever.) Now the scene, as screened, looks hugely like some sort of cheerful SFnal drug rape - a tasteless blunder of which the makers are aware. But knowing the intention shifts the blame from the character.

*ahem*

Personally I thought the dead wife storyline was a bit rubbish and would've prefered Owen just to be a "lad" who grew the hell up, but he still did grow the hell up, so whatever. :-)
