I do my very best to be as respectful as possible towards those people who do wish to be parents. :) The only people I have a real issue with are those who have children simply because it's part of the life script and then don't treat them right. It disgusts me when people bring children into this life, only to neglect and hurt them... I do, however, hope this sickens everyone. (To their credit, I have NEVER seen cf_hardcore condoning hurting children or children being harmed. Granted, I don't watch the community so I only catch what's going on every now and then, but if something horrible happens to a child, they always immediately feel terrible for the child and get angry at whoever is responsible.) But if people truly, really want kids and feel like they can give their kids a happy life? I think that's great for them, and I wish them the best. I am morally opposed to it, but I cannot force my morals on anyone.

See, I'm more reasonable than that. I don't expect anyone to eliminate pregnant women and babies, and it's fine that they're out there. I simply don't wish to be in the presence of them for extended periods of time. If I pass them in the hall, or they walk by? No problem. It's just when I'm in a situation where I have to be with them for an extended time that it bothers me, and then I just quietly leave. If I can't leave for some reason, I just look away. The only time just looking away doesn't do me any good is if they're crying, which is when I generally DO definitely leave, or at least cover my ears. The sound just stresses me out like nothing else.

Counseling would be more of an option if this wasn't so much of a moral thing for me, you see. While I try my best to be respectful of people who choose to be parents, I am (at the same time) morally opposed to people bringing more lives into the world. I think the amount of resources the ever-growing population of humans use is unfair to non-human animals that suffer horrifically and go extinct (not to mention meat animals and such--have you ever seen the documentary Earthlings? I highly recommend it), and also to humanity itself--every day, 40,000 children starve to death, and I...have trouble with the fact that here people just have their children as though nothing is wrong. Why bring more children into the world when there are so many out there suffering? What about them? Do they somehow matter less because we can't see them? I just can't justify that in my mind. Those children who already exist deserve to be saved and helped; when they are safe and happy, only then do I feel people should think about having their own children. I'm a bit too idealistic for my own good, I guess.

In short, I'm just a weird person, morally. I suppose I just feel too strongly for animals and people in third-world countries. I know the famine and disease in, say, Africa and other poor places is not exactly our fault, but at the same time it pains me when people choose to have their own genetic children at the expense of thousands of pre-existing ones. :/ It's just...so sad to me. Don't even get me started on what humanity does to animals.

(Sorry, again, to make this so long! I know it contradicts itself, too--I've almost got two different sides of me on this whole thing, and it's a matter of keeping a balance between my strange ideals and the real world. Real world = I'm respectful of people for their decisions, and think it's great if people bring children into the world if they really want them and love them; Ideally = I think it is morally wrong to bring children into the world, due to the human treatment of the earth and the state of other humans that already exist on the planet and deserve better.)
