Re: Things that you'd break a friendship over

I broke a friendship with a girl when she said trans people made her uncomfortable because they weren't happy with what God gave them. I don't have the energy to deal with someone like that.

That's fair, because that was a seriously dumb thing to say. Presumably she's okay with people wearing clothes? Getting glasses to correct poor eyesight? Receiving medical treatment for congenital conditions, like a heart murmur or a cleft palate? Flying in airplanes? Eating junk food?

What a twit.

Not saying you were wrong to break the friendship or anything because holy shit no you shouldn't have to deal with that.

But it also sounds like someone who has no idea what being trans is. That it's not just deciding you want to be someone else. It sounds like it could very well be someone who naively believes what they're told by their church about trans people. When I was a teen in church I believed a lot of stuff I was told or taught and looking back it's shocking how I could believe that stuff. I changed a lot of my opinions after actually meeting trans people and gay people and hearing their points of view. (that and I turned out to be pretty gay leaning myself later in life)

But then again the important thing is that a person also has to be be open and willing to listen to other perspectives. And if they're not there's not much you can do, sadly.
