Re: Fanfiction!

I'm very methodical. I only read fic if I ship a pairing, so I start by looking for smut fic. I filter AO3 to explicit for the pairing, then start combing through the results for what looks good based on summary and tags. Once I've read them all, I'll either start delving into the ones that didn't look very good at first glance or switch to the Mature rating, then unrated fics. I ignore AUs of any rating until I've read everything with my ship as the main pairing in E and M ratings, then start going through the AUs if they make up a large portion of the fics with adult ratings. I usually only read Teen and under if it's part of a series with higher rated bits or if it's an author I really like and the premise is very interesting.

Sometimes I'll read other pairings if they're interesting even if I don't actively ship them (like in ASOIAF and GOT) and in some fandoms I multi-ship, usually one common character for all ships. For example with House, MD I shipped House with Wilson, Cuddy, Cameron, and a few single episode characters, plus hate shipped him with Tritter. I left that fandom before Huddy became canon though (maybe 2009? 2010?) and I've only been in a few fandoms since then where I multi-ship. They're all tiny fandoms where it's more a matter of me wanting to read almost anything about a character instead of actively shipping them with multiple characters.
