Only the huge tentpoles and blockbusters - China only lets in a few foreign pictures a year - and most of them aren't smashing quality to begin with.

I'd like to see a list of the stands Chinese /(distributed) films have to adhere to. Reddit gets furious and claims "it means putting five Chinese people in!!" which, why not honestly, but there have to be legit concerns out there.

I just wish they streamed their movies worldwide too. I can buy The Mermaid on blu ray but I don't seem to be able to buy a rental.

The part that worries me, a little, is that global box-office expectations get set on the basis of including China. So something like Ghostbusters did really, really well in the states, but is seen as somewhat underperforming worldwide, basically because it wasn't a success internationally.

In and of itself, making things that appeal more to Chinese markets isn't bad. I think it's a problem only insofar as Hollywood is kind of fucked up and dumb right now, and doesn't have good mechanisms for making mid-range movies.

"The only way to be successful is if we include China in the profits" - I can see whythat worries people and certainly why a success shouldn't be hinged on ONE country.
