Only the huge tentpoles and blockbusters - China only lets in a few foreign pictures a year - and most of them aren't smashing quality to begin with.

I'd like to see a list of the stands Chinese /(distributed) films have to adhere to. Reddit gets furious and claims "it means putting five Chinese people in!!" which, why not honestly, but there have to be legit concerns out there.

I just wish they streamed their movies worldwide too. I can buy The Mermaid on blu ray but I don't seem to be able to buy a rental.

I have no interest in revisiting Anne Rice myself but this is pretty nifty!! tbh if I found it I'd probably buy it too.

I have one of these for Geoffrey Maguire's Wicked, also found in a crappy thrift store, but it doesn't look nearly this nice. It doesn't even have a real cover.

I don't think it's JUST a Lin-Manuel Miranda thing. It's also, you know, both useful scene-setting for the historical circumstances, and something that's familiar to contemporary audiences - as you point out, Greatest City In The World-type boosterism is something that's pretty common these days. And it's also something that exists specifically in rap, so it's one of the strands that creates and sustains the rap music || immigration parallelism. It fits into the musical really organically.

It does suck that it's on the T-shirts, though.

The Squire's Tales!! I love them too. They were a childhood favorite and I still periodically reread them, they still hold up. Terence is my favorite character, he's so awesome. Plus I love Morris's interpretation of ... pretty much every character from Arthurian legend, haha. And the way he affectionately pokes fun at some of the sillier elements of those tales.
