The fillings aren't the point. You can use anything you like in okonomiyaki!

The texture is going to be... ....not great if you use that recipe you linked. At least watch the video for that part. Overmixed okonomiyaki comes out pretty awful.

Apparently I just have really shitty taste ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

No, you're fine.

You live how you wanna live, anon.

That seemed like a huge leap, anon. You want a safety net? If I was going to use a bad or mediocre recipe for something new, I would hope someone would do what Herpy did and recommend something better.

What if I ended up not like that food not because the food sucked but because I used a bad recipe and did it wrong?

I make this about once a week because it's cheap and delicious. I think I'll survive. Somehow.

nayrt - It's funny that someone's suggesting that YOU might need a "safety net" just because you don't immediately jump to your feet and change your plans because a stranger on the internet says they know better than you do. You and your pesky independent thinking!

Honestly, it was their tone, to be honest.

If they had simply said, "Nah it's cool, I've used this recipe before and I quite like it." rather than, "Gee I guess I have TERRIBLE taste that you had the audacity to recommend a better recipe!"

Not seeing it, but sure.

nayrt but I take peoples' recommendations with a grain of salt, particularly if I don't know them or their taste in food and especially if they don't bother to explain why their version is "better", or what's wrong with the recipe I'm trying.

Well, I lived in Japan for a year, anon. Not going to claim I'm some kind of culture expert, but I've had a lot of okonomiyaki lol.

I'm NOT saying that someone's taste is objectively wrong because they like a certain thing a certain way! Far from it. I assumed it was the first time OP was trying to make it, and therefore was saying the recipe I suggested is "better" because will turn out more like the Japanese version of okonomiyaki.

See what I'm saying? It's not necessarily superior, it's just more authentic. OP's recipe will make a cabbage pancake, but it's a modified version of what you'd find in Japan.

That's very interesting. I would've found that information to be a lot more useful and credible than simply saying "Here's a better recipe".

Well, assumptions were made. I assumed people were aware that I've lived in Japan (since I've mentioned it a lot), and I assumed that was the first time anon was making the recipe.
