Re: What TV shows were you reluctant to start

It's set in 1983. There is a kid who disappears and his disappearance seems "normal" at first but later seems to be supernatural in nature. At the same time, another kid turns up seemingly on the run. She has supernatural powers. Government agents are all over the place but no one is quite sure what their angle is, just that they're being creepy and secretive. ARE THESE THINGS CONNECTED?!?!?! Regardless, spooky stuff is up!

There's not a lot I can say beyond that without spoiling stuff given there's only one season out and the plot gets pretty complicated.

Stranger Things: Spoilers

Please, start to spoil. No offence, but in an effort to not spoil, you haven't left me enough to judge with. Some plot details are needed. Spoilers enhance enjoyment anyway; scientifically proven fact that/.

k so disappeared kid's mom gets mysterious phone calls that she believes are from her missing son. Disappeared kid manages to contact her with flashing lights in the house. While this is happening, a monster breaks through the wall and disappears. Mom understandably freaks out and tells her older son about it, and tries to convince the skeptical sheriff that her kid's vanishing is no ordinary disappearance.

Meanwhile, a girl who is the sister of one of disappeared kid's friends is getting involved with this guy, so she goes to a party at his house with her unpopular friend who disappears from outside while girl is in the house. Girl is unconvinced that friend's disappearance is "normal" and discovers that a monster is visible in a photo taken just before she disappeared, by disappeared kid's older brother. Girl talks to brother, discovers that the photo matches the description of the monster the mom saw. So girl and disappeared kid's brother decide to team up to find out what happened to their respective missing persons.

Meanwhile, disappeared kid's buddies have met up with supernatural-powers-kid and are divided as to whether they should trust her to help them find disappeared kid or not. They hide her in the basement of one of their houses. The government agents who have been around are actually searching for supernatural-powers-kid, who escaped from a lab where she was being used in experiments involving her powers, experiments which are somehow connected to the disappearances.
