Re: The race for 2020 starts now.

Gabbard's a fucking snake. Don't trust her. Not for partisan reasons - just who she is.

I've heard that, actually. The problem is, is Booker not?

SA

By which I mean, he sure is too.

I dunno. I mean, he's ambitious as hell, and I wouldn't necessarily trust him not to stab me in the back, but I don't think he's exactly hiding anything about that. And he seems similarly honest about his economic positions.

Too many memories of Hillary to have a woman on the ticket again so soon. Gabbard will have to wait. Besides she is not properly black like Booker, and we need a black person to bring the Obama-mamas in.

That is stupid. Stupid as an argument, and stupid in the sense that American voters chose Hillary Clinton.

Also, there are multiple women who are both bigger in the party, more likely to be nominated, better candidates, and would be better in office than Gabbard. For instance any of the 3 new Democratic women senators who just got elected - I'm pretty convinced they would be better and I also think they would be more likely to be nominated. Gabbard is really shit and we can only hope she never does anything.

Agreed. I'm not familiar with Gabbard (though all this talk about her now has me curious to do some Googling), but I don't see why another woman can't run in 2020.

In fact, I think it'd be quite fitting to have a woman run, and hopefully win, that year, considering 2020 will mark 100 years since women won the right to vote here in the U.S. How perfect of timing would that be?

The GOP have already framed this as a culture war and use that to get the base out. Putting a woman up would be just confirming to them that they are right and provide them with an easy win in terms of having something to get their base worked up. It might not be right or fair or just, but dropping any women candidates for a couple of elections is the pragmatic thing to do in order to let the GOP wind down from the culture war rhetoric.

Do you really think that there are any circumstances under which the GOP would wind down their level of rhetoric?

If you really think it's an all-out culture war, then it's a culture war, and we're in it, and we might as well fight to win it.

Run another woman and their rhetoric gets traction it wouldn't otherwise have. Brown means that even if they run the rhetoric full pelt that it gets minimal traction, he isn't something people would turn out to vote against. Run a woman, especially a WoC, and you've got something that gets the GOPers out in droves to vote them down.
