I am kind of tired of the "this person I follow has different political beliefs than me. what should I do????" posts. A lot of political beliefs are very personal and important. You don't have to be friends or continue being friends with someone if you don't agree. But please stop whining about it. There are always going to be people around you who belong to a different political party/have different beliefs/support something that you are against. And a lot of the times you aren't able to simply unfollow them. Learning to at least tolerate that someone has a different opinion (even if it's something your against) is part of being an adult.

Kind of agree, kind of don't. The problem is that while it's true that accepting different opinions is a good skill to have, it's also not something that you can really do unilaterally. It takes two to tango. And as you get more and more polarization politically, it gets harder and harder to do that, and harder and harder to find people who are interested in doing that.

Also - I think there is a line between things that you should and should not tolerate, and it's a very hard line to draw, and I have sympathy for people trying to navigate that line. Tolerating intolerable things when you don't have to is not mature.

But you also need to learn how to decide who and what you have to tolerate, becauseyou don't need to to be universally tolerant of anything or everyone. Randos on the Internet? Yeah, those people don't "need" to be tolerated. You can tune out, a that's fine.

What is THAT character that has influenced the characters you've loved since?

I've realized that my early childhood love of Vegeta from DBZ created the archetype I'd gravitate towards in fandom for the rest of time. Basically the asshole OR stoic character with a center (sometimes small, sometimes huge) of good. So Spike from Buffy, Kaiba from Yu-Gi-Oh, Shane (and Daryl) from The Walking Dead, Peter Hale from Teen Wolf, Castiel from SPN, and many more.

Do any of you have an influential character from your youth that you can point to and go, "This is where it all started".

I am so fucking pissed off right now

I have been royally fucked over and no one even seems to care. Because of something someone did, it's costing me thousands of dollars (I can't give details right now because there's actually an ongoing legal case). The person who did it is a family friend, and the rest of my family is acting like it's no big deal, rather than acknowledging that this person is a total scumbag asshole.

I'm pissed off, and also really upset because the way my family is acting and the things they've said are making me feel like they don't care about me at all.

I'm just so, so sad and I feel so alone right now. :(

So I got triggered earlier and had an episode (thanks for sneaking up behind me to latch onto my arm, weird scammer lady in the Walmart parking lot). And now for the past three hours I've been dealing with pretty continuous panic/anxiety/whatever. It's just so frustrating. I have lots of work to do tonight, and it's just not happening, and all those nice little techniques people suggest to calm down to the opposite for me.

Sorry to be bothersome F!S, some things I can't talk to irl people about.

So who else is hooked on Pokemon Sun and/or Moon? Tell me about your teams! My team at the moment is Mudslide the Mudsbray, Larxene the Pikachu, Fang the Rockruff, Janeway the Growlithe, an egg of unknown species and Mermando the Brionne. I plan to trade for a Rowlet and a Litten at some point, though, and then breed them so that I can name their offspring myself and replace Janeway and the egg with them.

A question from someone whose life is a mess

So I had some frozen potstickers that I accidentally left out overnight. I refroze them, but I'm not sure if I should just throw them out or risk it. They're pork. They didn't smell bad when I caught them, but they're probably still no good, right?

Background information: I am a broke college student and all I really have is them, some canned beans, a single packet of bacon, and some dried pasta (no sauce) and some bread which is kinda old so i need to check it for mold. I won't be able to get to the store until tuesday, and I haven't eaten all day. I can just mix up the plain pasta and bacon, I guess?

I started out having a friendly text conversation with my co-assistant manager. He had a surprisingly good day while I was off, and I asked what his secret was, and it turned into 4-text-bubble screed about how I'm a bad manager who has an attidude that I need to drop, and our boss is good but I'm not. Oh, and here's this grievance from a year ago that they've been holding onto all this time -- and documenting more jsyk in case they ever need to use them against me with HR.

So basically, friendly conversation with person whose always been a friend on the job ended basically with PS: You suck, but I'm just being honest to help you because you asked. And what's my big crime? I "act like I'm the boss," to get things done when my department is absolutely eating it because people are acting like they've never done this before and we're about to blow deadline because of it. You know. Why can't I always be a nice girl who calmly holds everyone's hands while the do their jobs when I also have my own shit to do.

And yeah, right now I'm wearing my sassy attitude pants for this comment, because it's the only way I can think of to not let this tear me up inside. But it's failing pretty hard as a coping mechanism and I don't know who to fix it. "Just don't feel like a piece of shit" doesn't really seem like a viable option for my headspace.
