Re: What question do you hate being asked?

"what would you say is your worst quality?"

Because the honest answer of "I get sarcastic towards people who ask daft questions" never goes over well with job interviewers. Plus "why do you want to work here?" because the answer is "I need money". Despite every organization and employer saying they prize honesty and integrity, they all want you to lie when answering those questions. They literally neither want nor expect the actual truth.

Those are legitimate questions.

The fact that you can only answer sarcastically says that you aren't good at self-reflection and knowing your weaknesses.

"I need money" - well duh. Everyone does. But for most serious jobs, they want someone who is also interested in the field, is seeking to develop skills and move up in the field, if not the company. "I need money" doesn't sound like you're staying, because you're not interested in any potential non-material gains you might get from working at the job.

Honestly, you just don't sound very mature about it. Sure, some bullshitting is necessary in job interviews, they are reasonable questions for a serious employee and do not require lying.

Wow, did you study business in school to bullshit that well?

I hire people, and have interviewed for many jobs myself. I also have professional goals.

If you didn't get the job with your sarcastic bullshit, the company's better off.

If the job one is applying for is a serious, clear-potential-for-advancement, make-a-career-out-of-it type job, then I can understand questions like "Why do you want this job?" being important.

But if it's anything at or around minimum wage, with only minor advancement potential, then WHY THE FUCK DO YOU THINK I'M HERE, IT'S NOT FOR PERSONAL FULFILLMENT, JESUS.

And I'm actually fairly decent with job interviews. But that doesn't mean I'm not actively thinking about how much BS I'm spouting every single time I answer one of their questions.

Of course, but the fact still remains: companies don't want to hire anyone that looks like they will leave if the next door company offers them a job for a penny more, or will else get frustrated and leave on the spot if they don't end up loving the job.

Obviously, those things are in your right to do, but any company - McDonald's included - is going to prefer employees that have motivations beyond just money. Like hey, I think I want this job because I might enjoy working on a team, getting customer service experience, and getting my foot in the door with the food industry. Basically any job has "skills" you can glean from it for your resume, so companies want to hire people who are in it for something else, too.

It's not fake. It's common sense. No one wants an unreliable employee with a bad attitude.

No one wants an unreliable employee with a bad attitude

No one wants to be paid less than what they need to live on, either.

If employers want employees that give more to their job than the bare minimum, they could try paying their employees more than the minimum they legally can, even though it's not even a living wage.

I don't give my all to a job that treats me like shit. I consider that one of my better qualities.

What use are those legitimate questions though, if you actually expect people to lie in their answers?

Re: What question do you hate being asked?

I don't expect people to lie. I expect people to approach the question with the right attitude to find an answer that's true for them.

The question demonstrates your attitude more than it does anything. If all you can do is lie and be sarcastic, guess what, your attitude sucks and we won't be hiring you.

Is it expected that you are going to exaggerate a little? Sure. But again, how you market yourself is different from flat out lying.

I wasn't AYRT, just to be clear.

But still, I fail to see how much value you can put in the information you get when you expect people to "bullshit" their way through.

DA

I think what we're seeing here is that the system is set up to favor not just people who are good at bullshitting, but people who are so accustomed to the BS system that they don't see it as BS.

You can absolutely answer those questions non-sarcastically. nonny below handled the "why work here" thing, but for your worst quality...

Employers are trying to figure out how to use you effectively in the company. If your worst quality is that you suck at group work, they want to know because either you'll be a poor fit or they'll have solo work you might excel at. Someone who's a perfectionist might say that they tend to be slow at tasks because they're trying to do it right, and I would take that and assign them to a position that has lots of detail work where it won't matter if they're a little slow.

Because the honest answer of "I get sarcastic towards people who ask daft questions"

lmao

please tell me you actually responded with this in a job interview

lmaoooooooooooo

Of course it's bullshit because you don't believe anything about the company. You're a shitty fit, and need to find a place you're more enthusiastic about and whose mission and goals more align with your own. And you probably want to do some soul searching in the meantime as well, and take some classes on how to do a proper job interview.
