I like NPH, but I loved Carrey in the role and from the trailers he doesn't really seem to capture it.

I only saw like three episodes of HIMYM and didn't find it funny or engaging at all. So when I think NHP, I think of Dr. Horrible, and love him.

I don't think HIMYM is really a good show, and NPH's character was often poorly written, but I don't think his performance was especially bad

I'm ambivalent to NPH, but idk...Jim Carrey just doesn't disappear into his roles at all. He's always just Jim Carrey. Olaf was no exception for me, sadly.

I did like the movie, that said. Even as someone that loved the books. Apparently that's an unpopular opinion...?

I like NPH but he is just one of those people who are over-hyped and that always puts me off a little bit on his acting. It's not him so much as his fan base.

I'm the opposite. NPH is the only draw in this for me because I didn't like the first book, so I never read the others. And I hate Jim Carrey so I never saw the movie.

I'm still salty over Patrick Warburton being cast as Snicket, so...

Me too! But I don't have anything against NPH as an actor.

He looks better in the trailer than I expected, I have more hope.

I'm still undecided. I loved the books and I also loved the film, although they're really different. One thing I think Carrey (and the director, writer etc) got "wrong" was that they made Olaf far more comedic than he ever was in the books. He was sinister in the books. So I hope NPH brings more of that.

NPH's makeup looks weird to me but I guess I can get used to that. Carrey LOOKED perfect, I thought. Something about the nose.

+1

as someone who's read the books, these are exactly my feelings on it. jim carrey was great in the film - he just wasn't count olaf. more like the snl parody of him.

I loved Carrey in the role as well. It's unfortunate the film itself was so subpar otherwise. :(

Say it with me: an actor is not the character they play.
