As someone who grew up in that time period, I'm trying to recall if there was a "big" R-rated movie that didn't have a rape or attempted rape in it and I'm not recalling one off the top of my head.

Rocky was rated R, wasn't it? It didn't have any rape in it, or overtones or anything.

I saw it when it came out (I was 16) and it was on a double bill with Looking for Mr Goodbar. Unbelievably depressing.
