I'm not proud of it, but I can't take anyone seriously if they type like they're a fifteen year old girl sending a text message to their "BFF."

Especially when it's professional twitter accounts and facebook pages. A local library sent out a tweet to the effect of "cool reads 4 ur thanksgiving break."

Ooh, yeah, agreed on this one. It really does look goofy and lame.

(And then people can't figure out why some teenagers have a hard time learning how to write in anything other than text speak on their school papers and such. Gee, I wonder...)

Me neither. People complain that it's just easier or it saves time... sure. Because it's super duper important that you don't spend ANY effort into communicating other than the bare minimum. And these days with smartphones and autocorrect, it's not hard to type "for" instead of "4".

Yeah that grinds my gears. I can get behind slang for some groups that may include abbreviations and sometimes I use them too but that particular style of text speak is SO AWFUL.
