That last one only bothers me if it's one of those things with an attitude that they're making it realistic and "realistic"="unrelentingly grim". I know that happily ever after isn't realistic but the exact opposite is just as flat and unrealistic.

Yup. There's a BNF in my main fandom who subscribes to the "realistic" = "unrelentingly grim", but her grimdark becomes absurd due to the sheer amount she packs in, and she doesn't even realize she's defeating her point.
