repeat + one addition

[personal profile] sparrow_lately 2016-11-27 09:45 pm (UTC)(link)
People in their mid-to-late twenties who act like adulting will just magically happen if they make somebody else do it (i.e., relying on/forcing friends or family to make all plans for them, never cleaning or cooking etc., handling travel, all that jazz). IDK. Immaturity (both emotional and like, practicality wise). I know a 29-year-old who pitched a huge fit once because she "couldn't figure out" how to take a taxi. That kinda shit.

People who are proud of their apathy/ignorance/callousness.

People who act like fandom things (shipping, fic tropes, etc., not like, "this person in fandom is being abusive/hateful/etc") is THE MOST IMPORTANT POSSIBLE THING!

Otherkin and fictionkin.

Plus: "Disney princesses as _____!" art. ENOUGH. STOP. Especially if it's edgy. Etc.

That last one only bothers me if it's one of those things with an attitude that they're making it realistic and "realistic"="unrelentingly grim". I know that happily ever after isn't realistic but the exact opposite is just as flat and unrealistic.

Yup. There's a BNF in my main fandom who subscribes to the "realistic" = "unrelentingly grim", but her grimdark becomes absurd due to the sheer amount she packs in, and she doesn't even realize she's defeating her point.

+100 on this one. It really came out this political season, too.

You'd probably judge me a bit - I'm bad at adulting.

It's not being bad at adulting, it's expecting other people to pick up your slack in an entitled way. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

"Plus: "Disney princesses as _____!" art. ENOUGH. STOP. Especially if it's edgy. Etc."

I'm more annoyed at places like Buzzfeed for turning that into a "trend" when really fanartists having being doing it for years and it was something that was just for fun.

Like I have seriously seen Buzzfeed post fanart that was done a long ass time ago and then the comments are always something like, "Ugh, this again???" even though the artist drew it way before the trend.

Buzzfeed is so late to trends lmao.

Then "news" sites pick it up like it's the latest thing and jesus, that was like 5 years ago. Chill.

People who are proud of their apathy/ignorance/callousness.

Yep. "Why bother getting involved, nothing's going to change." Yep, and your attitude just further assures nothing will change, too, so...congrats?

There's also the people who think that mindset makes them so "edgy" or "too cool" or "above it all", too, and they're just as obnoxious.

"I know a 29-year-old who pitched a huge fit once because she "couldn't figure out" how to take a taxi."

I don't have much patience for this stuff either, because even if you're so anxious and apathetic that you cannot bring yourself to call the taxi company and ask how it's done, you can Google almost anything. Ignorance is excusable, but when people willfully refuse to do five minutes' research to rectify their own ignorance, that's a disgrace.

Agreed, especially with that last one. Even worse when the art is reposted on some ugly slideshow ad-filled clickbait site titled "You've NEVER seen disney princesses like THIS before!!!" or w/e. NO MORE I BEG YOU

Adulthood is a series of figuring out how to do things and the new things that need figuring out never stop. Anyone who can't approach adulthood with an "Okay, what are some ways I might be able to solve this problem?" attitude and who isn't willing to ask for advice or help before flipping out isn't much of an adult.

she "couldn't figure out" how to take a taxi

I know a 29-year-old who pitched a huge fit once because she "couldn't figure out" how to take a taxi. That kinda shit.

In the same vein: I have zero patience for guys who think it's cute that they don't know how to run the washing machine, sew on a button or scramble a couple of eggs. Less than zero patience for women who can't do these things and say "Oh, I'm such a guy!"
