If you say you "love Pokemon," but give off all the vibes of a genwunner or you treat the franchise like it's a fashion statement (ie. your favorite Pokemon is Pikachu because Hot Topic has him on all their Pokemon merch), then you can bet I'll judge. If you just say "Yeah, I like Pokemon, but I'm not that familiar with it/it's not my favorite fandom," then you're fine. I just hate the people who think it's a trendy fad and are suddenly "such huge fans" despite only knowing the names of 10 out of the 802+ Pokemon.

Saying "Digimon is a ripoff of Pokemon" is also another way for me to see you're ignorant and have no idea what you're talking about. Digimon/Dejimon is pretty much "Tamagotchi for boys" while Pokemon/Pocket Monsters is a monster-collecting RPG with its foundations in insect fighting. To say one is a ripoff of the other makes you just as juvenile as a schoolkid arguing over Marvel or DC comics.

Why can't someone who has only played Gen One say they love Pokemon? It's a complete game on its own, someone could've put thousands of hours into it over the years, and I'd absolutely consider them a serious fan. You don't have to "keep up" with every new installment to be a passionate fan about something.

Why aren't they allowed to only like Gen One?

I agree the hipster attitude is annoying, but it is perfectly legitimate to only like Gen One and hate the rest.

Different anon. I don't care either way but I would wonder if someone had played all the games if they only liked gen 1. Like it doesn't matter to me if you did only play gen 1, or maybe only a pokemon game here and there, but most people that I have seen that have played the games continuously tend to like games that in the very least get into the Game boy advance era or DS era.

I don't judge I'd just legitimately wonder about it.

It's not just only liking Gen I, it's going out of your way to say the newer gens are boring unoriginal trash and stuff like that, basically shitting on the rest of us who like all of it. Like AYRT said, basically annoying hipsters.
