Doing drugs. I don't care about the circumstances, if someone does drugs, I think they are pathetic.

What do you define as a drug?

Any non-medically necessary substances used to get high. I judge using hard drugs more but if someone is addicted (by their own fault) I still think it's pathetic.

And if someone is addicted to medically-necessary painkillers?

It's unfortunate but if it's a potentially addictive substance that they were medically forced to take its not exactly their own fault. It's different from making the conscious decision to take an addictive substance for recreational purposes.
I have to correct my initial post: The only time I think circumstances make a difference is when someone was forced into addiction - as it can happen with babies born to addicted mothers.

Okay question.

what about someone addicted to an addictive substance that is literally handed out to youths and children en masse in substances like sodas. They start out casually drinking something addictive, that they may not be entirely aware how addictive it is because it's treated like it's harmless. Then they get a tolerance for it and are hooked. Yes, I'm talking about caffeine. It's a drug that is in large amounts in sodas throughout the country, like its nothing. Treated, and even advertised all over the world like just a thing to get you and keep you going during the day. There are people I know and care about who I suspect are addicted to caffeine. If someone called them pathetic I'd want to break that person's kneecaps.

Now I'm of the opinion that judging addicts without considering the circumstances of their situation and dismissing them is ignorant and doesn't actually help anyting. But I will admit that there are plenty of drugs that are very known to be addictive and one is making a choice when taking them with the high risk of being addicted. That said looking down at them and calling them pathetic is a show of ignorance and an unwillingness to understand where our fellow human is coming from.

You are indeed a judgey bitch. :)

Well that was the topic, wasn't it?

I do not completely ignore the circumstances, tbh. It's always a matter of someone making the conscious decision to take drugs. (See reply to Dethtoll)
But yeah, if someone makes the conscious decision to take addictive substances, I judge them and think they're pathetic. Mostly because I have had too many people in my family and wider circle of acquaintances who fucked over not only their own lives but also those of their families and friends with their addiction. And I hate selfish, pathetic fucks like that.

I shall sit over here with my caffeinated drinks just sadly rolling my eyes at you.
