i agree. his SNL episode wasn't too bad though.

Not-OP

I thought the cold open was hilarious, but that was all I watched. I used to adore him.

His opening monologue was amazing and reminded me of how much I had missed him.

Yeah I agree, I think celebrity didn't mesh too well with him and I'm sure it's tempting to come back and make some money, but I don't think he's doing himself any favors in the long run. He'd probably be better off taking care of his mental health and finding something else to do.

I get the sense from him that he only comes back if he thinks he has something to say, that he's not in it for the money or the fame. Now, whether he's right about that - whether he does have something to say, whether he can still successfully execute his comedy - I don't know the answer to that question. But I believe after everything we've seen from him that he's not coming back unless he believes that.

And also, at the end of the day, he's one of the greatest comedians of our generation. He's a comedic genius. He's one of my personal comic heroes. If he was coming back for the money I wouldn't begrudge it. I'm certainly not going to begrudge him doing whatever projects he wants to do for creative fulfillment, even if they end up being bad.

Do you agree with his comments about Key and Peele? (Not flaming on you, just curious whether you could put those comments in context.)

(Anonymous) 2016-12-01 11:57 pm (UTC)(link)
It definitely wasn't polite or kind, and it wasn't entirely fair. But at the same time, it wasn't really wrong, either: the format of Key and Peele does obviously owe an enormous debt to Chappelle Show. There's nothing intrinsically wrong with that, but when you look at Chappelle's relationship with the entertainment industry, and the history of his show (and especially the 3rd season after he left), and his feelings about creativity and commerce and intention and all of that stuff, it's not hard to figure that he'd see Key and Peele's show in a more negative light.

I actually thought his SNL comeback was pretty terrible. He sounded like he was making up his monologue on the spot, and I was annoyed that he went for the "lol I can grab pussy, trump said so" gag. The election skit was okay. But nothing he did was particularly hilarious.

Uh, his Election Night thing was perfect.

Define "perfect"

The definition that is in the dictionary. It was perfect. And go away.

I agree with you. He sucks now.
