Well yeah, Geordi starts off with good intentions because he needs to the holodeck help, but then he asks for the holodeck to give her "personality" and ends up falling in love with the program before even meeting the real woman.

Then the real woman comes around and it's, well awkward.

Yeah basically. She had a definite professional distance and Geordi was trying to treat her like an old friend, and that added to the awkward.

I don't think that's a fair way to put it. She was a professional woman and Geordi was being sleazy because he'd built up this fantasy in his head. Of course she wanted to keep him at a distance, the whole thing must have been incredibly creepy from her perspective (I'd love to have heard her com calls home...)
