that super touchy enchantress has always been the villain. He was a kid, a lonely rich kid without parents how many kids at that age are selfish? but turning him into a beast and transform all his servants into objects seems to be too harsh as a punishment, not to mention that in that state I can't see how his social skills could be improved, and more people would be willing to sip tea with him.

The disney version is a bit weird about this aspect (because they still make it seems the Enchantress did the right thing and was good, at least I remember as a kid that I thought the movie was telling me that and that the prince had to learn a lesson) because in the original tale she WAS the villain: she tried to seduce the Prince (who was a bit older) and when he rejected her, she turned him into a beast for revenge so no one would have him.
